Plot Thoughts
Good races – humans, dwarves, trolls
Evil races – elves, vampires (night walkers)
Elves – Tolkeinesque, tall, elegant, beautiful. Creatures of the day – have very poor night vision but excellent hearing, which partially compensates but not completely. Create an alliance with the vampires – elves will rules the day, vampires the night
Vampires – can move in the day but are largely nocturnal.
Why do they want this alliance? They are being killed off. Both populations are at risk. This is their only way to fight back against their oppressors.
Vampires are masters of prophecy – foresee one who will spike their plans, send out a group of elves and vampires to destroy him
Evil people
Elven King and Queen – King Terevesh and Queen Araveil
Vampire King and Queen – King Belzec and Queen Zarah
Elven General – General Tevali (cousin of Firali)
Vampire ‘General’ – General Xacash
Vampire Information
Vampires exist but not in the way most novels/movies depict them. In a sense they are nocturnal humans – they are capable of moving in the daylight but they don’t like it, it hurts their eyes and they’re incredibly vulnerable. Crosses, holy water and garlic pose no problems for them. They can cross running water, they don’t need to be invited into a house before they can cross the threshold, they don’t turn into bats, cats, rats or any other creature. Staking them through the heart or cutting off their heads will kill them but then it’ll kill anyone. They don’t turn to dust when they die nor are they undead.
They are a subspecies of humans that are nocturnal and feed on blood (much the way vampire bats do). They are the ones who have propagated all the rumours about vampires in order to distract normal humans and make their lives easier. They use all the vampire admirers as prey/amusement. They find the way some humans think vampires are interesting to be hilarious but don’t do anything to dissuade or discourage them.
There are very few differences between normal humans and the vampires. Vampires can easily pass for normal, at least in the dark. In the light, the differences are more noticeable. Pointed ears, slit pupils (?), elongated canines. Their saliva possesses a quality similar to leeches – they create a wound with their canines then their saliva contains anti-coagulant properties that stops their victim’s blood from clotting, they then drink the blood. They rarely drink more than a pint or two from their victims, not because they wouldn’t want to but because dead humans drained of blood tend to be rather noticeable and they’d rather nobody noticed their existence. If they do accidentally (or deliberately) drain their victim of all their blood, their victim simply dies. They do not turn into a vampire.
Vampires are capable of breeding thought the fertility of the females is much lower than that of normal human females. A female vampire will bear no more than three offspring in her lifespan. A vampire’s lifespan is greatly increased. The average lifespan is 200 years for a male and 250 years for a female. Vampire intelligence is not dissimilar to that of normal humans – some are stupid, some normal, some are extremely intelligent.
Story involves winter solstice – every thousand years a ritual can be performed on the winter solstice. If it succeeds then for the next thousand years there will be nothing but night. If it fails, things continue as normal.
The ritual will succeed therefore leading to the need to find a way of reversing/negating the effects.
Effects can be negated by a second ritual.
